Bruce Brander has over 45 years of experience as a professional engineer and lawyer in Alberta. His education includes:
- BSc in Civil Engineering (With Distinction): 1973
- MSc in Transportation Planning: 1978
- LLB: 1986
He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and the Institute of Transportation Engineers |
He has acted for project proponents, landowners and interveners in a wide variety of matters including:
- Energy facilities (oil and gas wells, gas plants, processing plants, oil sands plants, pipelines, electric transmission lines, electric generation facilities)
- Gas, pipeline, and electric utility tolls and tariffs
- Professional conduct and liability
- Commercial litigation and arbitration
- Land Use Planning and Development
- Environmental assessment processes and applications
- Surface Rights (surface leases, damages to land and crops, entry to land)
He has appeared before a wide range of tribunals including:
- National Energy Board
- Alberta Energy Regulator (Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board)
- Alberta Utilities Commission (Alberta Public Utilities Commission and Alberta Energy and Utilities Board)
- Alberta Environmental Appeals Board
- Alberta Surface Rights Board
- Subdivision and Development Appeal Boards.
He has acted as counsel for regulatory appeals and reviews, and civil litigation before:
- The Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta
- The Alberta Court of Appeal
- The Federal Court of Appeal, and
- The Supreme Court of Canada.
