Bruce Brander has over 45 years of experience as a professional engineer and lawyer in Alberta. His education includes:
  • BSc in Civil Engineering (With Distinction): 1973
  • MSc in Transportation Planning: 1978
  • LLB: 1986
He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and the Institute of Transportation Engineers


 

He has acted for project proponents, landowners and interveners in a wide variety of matters including:

  • Energy facilities (oil and gas wells, gas plants, processing plants, oil sands plants, pipelines, electric transmission lines, electric generation facilities)
  • Gas, pipeline, and electric utility tolls and tariffs
  • Professional conduct and liability
  • Commercial litigation and arbitration
  • Land Use Planning and Development
  • Environmental assessment processes and applications
  • Surface Rights (surface leases, damages to land and crops, entry to land)

He has appeared before a wide range of tribunals including:

  • National Energy Board
  • Alberta Energy Regulator (Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board)
  • Alberta Utilities Commission (Alberta Public Utilities Commission and Alberta Energy and Utilities Board)
  • Alberta Environmental Appeals Board
  • Alberta Surface Rights Board
  • Subdivision and Development Appeal Boards.

He has acted as counsel for regulatory appeals and reviews, and civil litigation before:

  • The Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta
  • The Alberta Court of Appeal
  • The Federal Court of Appeal, and
  • The Supreme Court of Canada.
